24. Asparagus

Canned asparagus shall be presented as one of the following styles:

 

(a) Long asparagus spears or whole asparagus: Shall consist of the head and adjoining portion of the stalk not more than 180mm, but not less than 120 mm in length;

 

(b) Asparagus spears or short asparagus: Shall consist of the head and adjoining portion of the stalk less than 120mm, but not less than 70mm in length;

 

(c) Asparagus tips or asparagus points: Shall consist of the head and adjoining portion of the stalk less than 70mm, but not less than 30mm in length;

 

(d) Asparagus cuts or asparagus spears: Shall consist of  portions of spears cut transversely into pieces not more than  70mm, but not less than 20mm in length;

 

(e) Asparagus cuts with tips: Shall consist of  portions of spears cut transversely into pieces not more than  70mm, but not less than 20mm in length: Provided that the portions with tips shall be equal to or greater than 15%(m/m) of the drained mass.
