Practise notes by the Registrar of Close Corporations in relation to the use of the abbreviation for the expression "Close Corporation" in the official languages of the Republic.
These notes, which will take effect on the date of promulgation of the Close Corporations Amended Act, 1997, are published for guidance of the public and professions.
1) | Section 22 of the Close Corporations Act, 1984, provided that the abbreviation "CC" or "BK" had to be subjoined to the name used by a close corporation. This provision has now been amended and provides that the abbreviation "CC" or its equivalent in any one of the other official languages must so be subjoined. |
2) | The term for "close corporation" and suitable abbreviations therefor in the other official languages have been in consultation with the Director: State Language Services been identified as follows: |

3) | For purposes of the said section 22 only the above-mentioned abbreviations, as formally approved by the Director: State Languages Services, Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, will be allowed and any one of such abbreviations has to selected by the applicant for reservation of a name and be stated and subjoined to the name on form CK 7. |
4) | The abbreviation which has been selected as contemplated in paragraph 3 shall at all times for purposes of the Close Corporations Act, 1984, be subjoined to the name of a close corporation which it uses. |
