34. Application of strategic and operational intelligence

The Intelligence Division must, subject to the National Strategic Intelligence Act, 1994 (Act 39 of 1994), gather, correlate, evaluate and use—

a)strategic intelligence for purposes of—
i)ensuring national security;
ii)assisting in the formulation of defence policy;
iii)assisting in the determination of defence strategy;
iv)assisting in the execution of defence and foreign policy;
v)ensuring the security of defence assets of whatever description; and
vi)assisting in the co-ordination of foreign military assistance; and
b)operational intelligence for purposes of—
i)assisting in the execution of operations in line with defence strategy;
ii)assisting in the preparation of forces in order to get them ready for combat;
iii)providing support for combat forces; and
iv)ensuring the security of the forces.
