Regulations relating to the Prohibition of the Manufacturing, Importation, Exportation and Sale of Polycarbonate Infant Feeding Bottles containing Bisphenol A

1. Definitions

In these regulations—

 

"Bisphenol A"

means an industrial chemical that is mainly used in combination with other chemicals to manufacture plastics and resins such as polycarbonate, a type of transparent, rigid plastic, used for, among others, the manufacturing of infant feeding (baby) bottles, and which is also referred to as 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane.

 

"the Act"

means the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act No. 54 of 1972), and any expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall bear such meaning and, unless the context otherwise indicates.
