D. Leave

26. Family Responsibility Leave

26.1An employer must grant an employee family responsibility leave as per the provisions of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, No. 75 of  1997 (as amended).

 

26.2The current definition will be extended to include paid time off for "spousal" illness on the following terms and conditions:
26.2.1Hospitalisation of spouse
26.2.2Chronic illness / disease
26.2.3The above is subject to:
26.2.3.1The employee submitting a valid medical certificate.
26.2.3.2Acceptable proof of the spousal relationship which will include a marriage certificate and that the spousal's details are recorded the employees' personal file.
