| (1) | This Act applies to measurable products and services, measurements in trade, health, safety and the environment and any measuring instrument used for a prescribed purpose. |
| (2) | The objects of this Act are to— |
| (a) | expand the scope of trade metrology to legal metrology; |
| (b) | strengthen the enforcement of legal metrology; |
| (c) | develop the appropriate legislative framework; |
| (d) | protect consumers against short measure or inaccurate measurement; |
| (e) | establish a level playing field for industry; and |
| (f) | support local industry competitiveness. |
