129. Advance of more than one month's wages prohibited

(1)The owner or master of a South African ship shall not pay or agree to pay in advance to or on account of any seafarer in respect of wages an amount in excess of one month's wages.

 

(2)Any agreement for the payment in advance of wages to or on account of any seafarer in contravention of subsection (1) shall be void, and any money paid in pursuance of any such agreement shall not be deducted from the seafarer's wages, and no person shall have any right of action or set-off against the seafarer or his assignee in respect of any money so paid.
