Examination and Licensing of Compass Adjusters Regulations, 1991

Chapter I : General

3. Application

(1) Any person who adjusts the compass of any ship whose compass is required to be adjusted under the provisions of the Act shall be in possession of a valid licence issued in terms of these regulations.

 

(2) There shall be two grades of licences issued following the appropriate examination, viz:
(a) Licence as a Compass Adjuster (Restricted), and
(b) Licence as a Compass Adjuster (Unrestricted).

 

(3) The holder of a licence as a Compass Adjuster (Restricted) is approved to adjust the compasses of vessels having the hull or superstructure constructed  of non-ferrous material, or of vessels having the hull or  superstructure constructed of ferrous materials and engaged in voyages having a change in magnetic latitude 01 less than 10 degrees.

 

(4) The holder of a licence as a Compass Adjuster (Unrestricted) is approved to adjust the compasses of any vessel engaged in voyages of any description.
