A candidate for the certificate of competency as chief mate shall have—
(a) | completed at least 12 months' approved sea service as an officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 3 000GT or more on unlimited voyages while holding, as a minimum, a certificate of competency as deck officer; |
(b) | passed a theoretical examination at an accredited institution and have successfully completed training; and |
(c) | been assessed at level 3. |
