37. Engineer officer

A candidate for the certificate of competency as engineer officer shall be at least 18 years of age and shall have—

(a)completed at least six months' approved sea service as assistant engineer officer on ships of 750 kW propulsion power or more under the supervision of an engineer officer;

(b)passed a theoretical examination at an accredited institution and have successfully completed approved training consisting either—
(i)of an approved cadetship, of at least 30 months, consisting of—
(aa)practical workshop training;
(bb)theoretical education; and
(cc)at least six months approved sea service; or
(ii)of an approved trade as an artisan in an engineering discipline; and
(c)been assessed at levels 1, 2 and 3.
