2. Objects of regulations

These regulations—

(a) for the purposes of section 232(1)(a) read with section 356(1)(xxviii) of the Act—
(i) declare the signals that are to be regarded as signals of distress; and
(ii) prescribe the circumstances in and purposes for which those signals may be used;
(b) pursuant to section 356(2)(b) of the Act, give effect to the provisions of the International Collision Regulations Convention; and
(c) pursuant to section 356(1)(xxxviii) of the Act, require observance of the provisions of these regulations also by and in relation to certain aircraft and other novel craft.
