4. The Objectives of the Guidance Note

4.1The objectives of this guidance note are to assist employers to establish sustainable HIV and AIDS management and control programmes at mines to:

 

4.1.1Implement prevention strategies.

 

4.1.2Reduce the burden of HIV.

 

4.1.3Improve clinical outcomes of people living with HIV.

 

4.1.4Reduce morbidity due to HIV and TB co-infection .

 

4.1.5Reduce HIV incidence (reduce the number of new infections amongst employees and their families) .

 

4.1.6Avert AIDS related deaths ensuring that people. living with HIV start with the right therapy at the right time.

 

4.2Ensure compliance to obligations  as prescribed in other relevant labour legislation (LRA, EEA, BCEA) and other relevant COPs.
