16. Certificate of South African citizenship

(1)The Minister may on the application of any person cause to be issued to that person a certificate in respect of the status of any person who to his or her satisfaction is, or was, a South African citizen.

 

(2)A certificate issued under subsection (1) shall indicate in addition to such other particulars as the Minister may deem fit whether the person in respect of whom it has been issued, is or was at the date or for the period mentioned therein, a South African citizen by birth, descent or naturalization without prejudice to any evidence that he or she was at any other date or during any other period a South African citizen as mentioned therein.

 

(3)The Minister may require the production of such evidence of citizenship as he or she deems fit before authorising the issue of any certificate in terms of this section.
