2. Aim of the Code

2.1The Act protects persons with disabilities against unfair discrimination in the workplace and directs employers to implement affirmative action measures to redress discrimination.

 

2.2The Code is a guide for employers and employees on promoting equal opportunities and fair treatment for persons with disabilities as required by the Act.

 

2.3The Code is intended to help employers and employees understand their rights and obligations in order to promote certainty and reduce disputes to ensure that persons with disabilities can enjoy and exercise their rights at work.

 

2.4The Code is intended to help create awareness of the contributions persons with disabilities can make and to encourage employers to fully use the skills of such persons.

 

2.5It is also intended to ensure that all employers identify, respect and promote the rights of any person with a disability, including the right to dignity, particularly pertaining to work and employment.1
