Regulations relating to the Registration of Orientation and Mobility Practitioners, 2024

2. Registration as Orientation and Mobility Practitioner

(1) The registrar may register as an Orientation and Mobility Practitioner any person who holds any one of the following qualifications, which shall include experiential training obtained under supervision of an occupational therapist in a training facility approved by the board for this purpose:

Orientation and Mobility Instructor Certificate

South African Guide-Dog Association

Orientation and Mobility Instructor Certificate

Orientation and Mobility School/College of Orientation and Mobility

Orientation and Mobility Instructor Certificate

University of Johannesburg Technicon Witwatersrand

National Diploma: Orientation and Mobility Practice for Blind and Partially Sighted Persons

Education Training and Development Practice - SETA

 

(2)Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these Regulations, any person who has worked as an Orientation and Mobility Practitioner for a minimum period of five years prior to date of promulgation of these regulations may apply to the Board for registration as an Orientation and Mobility Practitioner, and the Board may exempt such person from the requirements of subregulation (1).

 

(3)The Registrar must register as an Orientation and Mobility Practitioner any person who has been exempted from the provisions of these regulations in terms of subregulation (2).
