150. Sale of property of deceased seafarer

(1)Subject to the provisions of subsection (2), the proper officer may, if he thinks fit, sell any of the property of a deceased seafarer delivered to him, or of which he takes charge under this Chapter, and the proceeds of any such sale shall be deemed to form part of the said property.

 

(2)Before selling any valuables comprised in such property the proper officer shall endeavour to ascertain the reasonable wishes of the next-of-kin of the deceased seafarer as to the disposal of such valuables. He shall, if practicable and lawful, comply with such wishes.

 

(3)Every such officer shall remit the property or proceeds so acquired to the Authority, and shall render such accounts in respect thereof as may be prescribed or may be required by the Authority.
